- ' ' V : , ASSEMBLY SMITTEN DUMB. Australian Press Assn.—United Service GENEVA, Sept. 4. For the first time in its history the Assembly this afternoon suffered, a count out. The session was called for four o’clock when there was a full muster. The formalities were quickly disposed of, and the President amidst, a general titter announced that not a single name had been handed in to begin the debate on the Council Secretariat’s huge annual report of seven-ty-four closely printed pages. He therefore had no choice but to adjourn till 10.30 to-morrow. If no names are submitted overnight, there will bo no debate at all. This Is tliefirst time the Assembly has been smitten by dumbness, in contrast to the usual volubility. The trouble at the moment appears to he to get someone to begin talking. All the big men feel that international affairs are in such a promising state in regard .to the Pact and also the naval agreement, that it is no time for technical fireworks. They perfer to shape things quietly in the committee rooms. SPEAKERS AT GENEVA. GENEVA. September 6. Sufficient names were handed in to . keep the debate going till big men liko Lord C'ushendun, M. Biiaml, and Herr -Muller, are ready to take the tribuno and reveal the mysterious' something which, rightly or wrongly, the tipsters say is in the air in regard to the programme of pacification. iUcLachlan speaks in the next few days, a general review of the League work. It is expected Baillieu will draw attention with an extension of the budget when the Finance Commission begins.'
