STEAMER. SHORT OF COAL. AUCKLAND, Sept. 4. The steamer Halcric, cn route from Makatea. Island to Australia, reports I>V wireless that she is short of coa , and will arrive at Auckland on Thursday evening to replenish her bunkers. WELLINGTON AVAR MEMORIAL. WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. For several years a battle ol sites lias keen going on over the Citizens War Memorial. The first chosen was in Lambtan Quay, below Parliament Buildings. Then a site at the basin reserve was strongly advocated, hut d was found impossible. Now the Prime Minister has offered a section ol ground close by the original site proposed. and this has been accepted. The ground at present is covered » shops, but the Government and the City Council, between them intend t purchase and clear a number of the buildings away, portly for tramway purposes and partly to improve tbo approaches to Parliament House. It is a ’ portion of this area that will be given k up to the memorial.
