Australian Press Assn.—United Service CYCLE RACE RECORD. PARIS, Sept. 2. Opjxn'innn won the Bolden cycle racing trophy covering 590} miles of the track in twenty-four hours. This is eight miles more than the record for tho race. WORLD CHAMPION CYCLIST. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) PARIS, September 4.
Opporman had a sensational win. He rode behind Triplets and continued to create a world’s record for a 1,00(1 kilometres in 25 hours, 1!) minutes, 3(1 4-sths seconds. He commenced at eleven on Saturday night. After six hours Opporman was eleven laps behind, owing to breaking admin and punctures. Ho resumed, displaying phenomenal abiltiy to ride furiously, and completely demoralised the held. He assumed tho lead and then went after the record and succeeded in breaking Oscaregg’s by 23 kilometres, 135 metres. The field was of first-class continental riders.
Critics acclaimed Opperamii as the greatest all-round cyclist in the world.
