Australian Press Assn. —United Service THE PAPAL LEGATE. LEVEE AT TOAVN HALL. SYDNEY, Sept. 3. Cardinal Cerretti, the Papal Legate held a. levee at the Sydney Town Hall to-day. It was a largely attended and represenative gathering.
The Town Hall was beautifully decorated with the Papal colours. Cardinal Cerretti was enthroned in the middle of the hall taking homage from the slowly moving crowds as they passed by. There were no speeches the crowds silently paying a tribute to the head of the Catholic Church in Australia and New Zealand.
MAN HANGED. FREMANTLE, September 3. Clifford Hnlme, who was found guilty of the murder of Smith, as cabled on. June 2-lfli. was hanged at Fremantle gaol. BODY FOUND. SA T DNEY, Sept. 3. The body of Mr Tloldstein, a member of the New South AA ales Legislative Assembly, was found on the rocks at Coogee this afternooon. Goldstein, who has been in ill health lor some time,\was missed from his home this morning. POST MORTEM EXAMINATION. SYDNEY, Sept. 3. A post mortem examination of the Seftons, whose deaths were cabled today, lias revealed that death in each case was due. to poisoning. BOLTING HORSES CAUSES MAN’S DEATH. , ' SYDNEY, Sept. 4. An unknown, shabbily dressed, yet plucky, man tried to stop a pair ol belting horses in the heart of the city. He had nearly succeeded when a shaft crashed into a taxicab. The man was thrown under the horses hoofs and was literally trampled to death, his face being unrecognisable. \ huge crowd witnessed the tragic affair.' Another man secured the horses before they, did further damage.
