(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. LADY SUPERINTENDENT RETIRES. AA’ELLINGTON, Aug. 31. Miss L. AY. I. Stott, lady superintendent of tho AA’ellington Hospital, Ims resigned owing to ill health, after fourteen years’ service. Her work at tho AA’ellingtoii Hospital has won her tho warm approbation of the hoard. Mr F. Castle said that Miss Stott had been on sick leave during the past nine months. Miss Stott was appointed assistant lady superintendent in 1914, and was promoted to bo lady superintendent in 1917.
Her resignation was accepted with regret.
AVRECKED CAR MYSTERY. AUCKLAND, Sept. . A wrecked motor car was found against tlio fence of the Mental Hospital at Avondale early this morning, it having evidently rolled over several times. There wore bloodstains on the hood which indicated that the driver had been injured. 'Tho car was a twoseater without a number plate. It was badly damaged. So far there is no information about the occupants nor are there any details of the mishap. SIR AV. SIM’S FUNERAL. SERVICE AT CREMATORIUM. , DUNEDIN, Sept. 2. The Inst rites in connection with the late Sir AYilliam Sim were observed at Anderson’s Bay, Crematorium yesterday, following a burial service at tho residence of the late Judge. Several hundred mourners were present, including representatives of practically every section of tho community. AVreaths wore received from every part of the Dominion. The Christchurch Law Society was represented by Messrs C. S. Thomas, H. C. D. Van Ascii, and 11. 11. Levingstono. Tho services at the residence of the late Judge and at the Crematorium wore conducted by the Rev. A. AA’ingfield, Anglican Yicnr of Holy Cross, St. ICilda.
MOTOR CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED. GISBORNE, Sept. 2. Shortly after nine o’clock on Saturday night, two Maoris, Fere Hatia Tatono afid Bert Porcki, loft Gisborne on a motor cycle to attend a dance at Muriwai, Tatene driving and Pereki pillion riding. Nearing Muriwai, their machine apparently got off the bitumen into some loose gravel, and skidded, both being thrown. A passing taxi-driver say the men on tiie road. Both were removed to the Cook Hosnital.
Tatene, who was injured on the head and hands, never regained consciousness, and died that afternoon. The deceased was a single man, thirtyseven years of age, born in tbe AVaiapu district. Pereki was badly injured, but is progressing favourably. FATAL FALL FROM LORRY. HAMILTON, Sept. 2. A returned soldier, Latham Rogers, aged 39 years, labourer, fell off a lorry near Kibikilii last night, and sustained concussion. He died at the AA’nikato Hospital to-day. KILLED BY MOTOR CYCLE. AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. Fatal injuries were sustained by a labourer, John Smith, aged 33 years, of 43, Chester Avenue, Grey Lynn, through being knocked down by n motor van while cycling in Grey Lynn last night. His death occurred at the Hospital early this morning.
DEATH OF MAORI AVAR VETER AN TAURANGa, Sept. 1. Captain Arthur Algernon Crapp died this morning. He was aged 8G years, and was a Maori War veteran. He took part in many engagements. He is survived by an adult family. He will he buried to-morrow -in the old military cemetery. FORT CHALMERS BURGLARY. DUNEDIN, Sept, 2. Burglars entered the shop of John Watson, draper, Port Chalmers, early on Saturday morning, an entry being gained by cutting a hole in a panel of tlie back door. Tlie safe was forced open and £ll4 in cash was secured.
