Her victories included thir,con t useiuitive wins in the ladies’ •ham;‘unship singles, ten successes in the ladies’ championship doubles and nine succesves in the combined championships. At the annual meeting of the co’.'ucil to-night Miss Nunneley handed her gift over to the association. “I am very glad to do this for the association,” she said, “for the association had done so much for me in the past that T could not he more grateful to any association than the New Zealand assc'iatian, and it is a pleasure for me to give them back my medals for competition among lady players.” (Prolonged applause).
Mr G. N. Goldie remarked that Miss Nunnerley’s career bad been a most glorious one. She was the pioneer of women’-, tennis in New Zealand.
In thanking Miss Nunnerley for her gift, on behalf of the association, the chairman, Mr A. G- Henderson, said that she had done more for a higher standard of play among women than anv other lady player in New Zealand. “This gift,” he said, “is the most handsome that has ever been made in the history of New Zealand tennis. The competition for which she has suggested the trophy be awarded will undoubtedly raise the standard of play among lady players in this country.” As Miss Nunnerley left the meeting room she received three hearty cheers followed by the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” The association later placed on record its been appreciation of Miss Nunnerley’s generous and spontaneous gift.
