Some 200,000 brown trout ova arrived from Southland to-day, and will lie hatched out at Lake 'Kanieri.

The prospects of the mining ventures near Okarito are regarded with a good deal of favour by those with a knowledge of tlie locality. AYith the aid of machinery it is expected that deeper and richer ground will he topped than ever before. The beach loads of the south, especially those replenished by the AVailio river, have all been highly gold hearing, and as a consequence the mining enterprises should he rewarded with success.
The By-Law Committee of the Westland Acclimatisation Society met last night and drafted a set of by-laws for the conduct of the business of the Society which will he submitted to a meeting of the general committee on Alonday, September 10th. The ordinary meeting is being altered from next Wednesday (the usual date) owing to the absence of the President, and tile hospitnl ball taking place that evening. When accepted by the general committee, the by-laws will he submitted for final adoption by a general meeting of the Society to he held in October.

The death is announced of Mrs McKecvor at Wellington. The deceased was the wife of the late Mr McKeevor, a former well known chemist of Hevell Street, Hokitika. Mrs James Keenan, now of Wellington, and a former nurse at Westland Hospital is a daughter of deceased.
An unfortunate accident hefel Mrs Surgenor, of Seddon Terrace, Himu, this morning. A cow on her property having calved, she went out to sec it, and on approaching the cow, it rushed at Airs Surgenor, knocking her down and goring here. The lady received severe injuries and was removed to the Westland Hospital lor attention.
The Dairying Industry is an important one in Westland. No headway can he made without a plentiful supply of winter feed as well as good pasture feed. The provisioning of stock during the winter, and the providing of early spring feed for August-Septem-ber months are important .factors in the progress of Westland. It is well recognised that for dairying to be profitable, a more lengthy milking period must he established. This can only he accomplished by the establishment of good pastures and providing of the necessary supplementary food as required. The death occurred at the Wellington Hospital on Monday, of Air William Henry Alurray after a prolonged illness. Deceased was horn at Carlisle, England, 61 years ago, and came to New Zealand at an early age. ITis father was the late James Alurray, a well-known Invercargill contractor and sportsman. Deceased was formerly engaged in the sawmilling industry. but settled down to farming at Moonlight 20 years ago. Ho finally left the Coast two years ago to reside with his son in Christchurch. lie was returning from a holiday spent in Auckland and took a seizure on the express and was admitted to the Wellington Hospital about two months ago, where he remained a patient till his death. The late Air Alurray has one surviving son, James,' of Christchurch, his wife and family having predeceased him. The dentil took place yesterday morning, at the residence of his son, John, of Cowper Street, Grcyinoiitli, of Air Hector AlcKen/.ie, after a short illness. Deceased was SI years of age and a native of Lanarkshire, Scotland. He arrived in New Zealand at Nelson in 1878, and proceeded immediately to Kanicri. being one of the oldest residents of that district. Although an engineer l>y trade, he soon became one of the Coast’s thousands of adventurous gold-seekers, hut later joined the stall' (1 the Public Works Department as overseer. lie retired about thirteen years ago, and resided with his soil John. Ilis wife predeceased him about thirteen years. lie leaves three sons, Hector (engineer. Auckland freezing Works), M i 11i:i in (engineer), and John (Greymouth). The interment will lie private.

Alter evidence had been given regarding A\ ailorson s injiuies, accused was remanded on bail lor seven days. ft is alleged that- nine of Abdullah's countrymen state that they will not rejoin the ship under any circumstances. and have threatened to kill the steward. The Somalilamlers state that if they are forced to rejoin the ship they will kill the chief officer and chief steward. They are emphatic on this point, saying that they will die as long as they can carry out their threat. Captain A. P. Hach is afraid of the men carrying out their threats, and is not anxious to take them on board. The Africans were signed on at New York. Previous to that- a Chinese crew was employed, but they left the boat in America. The Atholl arrived in Westport from Auckland oil Saturday.
