FRONT] HR. INCIDENT. I’ARIS, July 4. An amusing frontier incident which will have to be soltled through diplomatic channels took place aJew clays ago near Modane, on the Franco.ltalian frontier. Sonic Italian soldiers occupying the Customs hut on the mountain path found they were without benches or tables, while the unoccupied French hut, a few yards across the frontier, was well equipped. Throe of the Italian soldiers slung their rifles and, walking across, “borrowed” the furniture to make themselves comfortable. They little dreamt that an official report on this irregular behaviour was immediately wired to the French Ministry of the Interior. The two Foreign Offices are now engaged in considering how the benches and tables can ho returned, and what disciplinary steps shall he taken to mark official disapproval of the- incident.
