NO MONEY, NO WORK. MANY DEBTS. AUCKLAND, Aug. 26. Of good appearance, and dressed in a well-fitting double-breasted brown .suit, William Arthur Scott (22) a recent arrival from England, who was yesterday arrested by Detective Hunt, appeared at the Police Court this morning before Mr McKean, S.M. Scott pleaded guilty when charged with being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient means of support. Chief-Detective Hammond said that Scott had arrived from England in April last For some time he was employed as a salesman in a footwear shop in Karangahape road hut he failed to give satisfaction and recently had been out of work. “He owes £lO for his board and be lias got into the good graces of several young ladies In Auckland from whom ho borrowed sums of money totalling between £4O and £SO” added the Chief-Detective. “He has been going the pace attending cabarets and running up an account of about £7 for taxi hire. For the last two or three nights, having nowhere to stay, he has slept in the back seats of taxicabs. Scott is welleducated and his people are quite respectable. He has received some money from Home, but Iras spent it all. I don’t think there is anything criminal about him, but he certainly needs checking, otherwise lie might go too far.”

The Magistrate adjourned the case for six months, and directed Scott to report himself to the Probation Officer,
