FATTEST MAN. NEW YORK, July 11. The fattest man in tlie United States, Mr Emory Titman, died in Atlantic City, New Jersey, yesterday, after he had squandered a fortune of £25,000. Mr Titman, who weighed 50st., was told some time ago by the doctors that lie had only a year to live. Bearing in mind the Biblical quotation, “ Let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die” he determined to spend his fortune in his lifetime. He chartered special trains, entertained scores of chorus gills at expensive banquets, witnessed every prizefight, and at the end of a year had spent ail his money. But he was not near death and his weight was down to 30st. He went to Atlantic City, obtained a job as masseur in a Turkish hath, and later drove a taxicab. But the doctors were not so far wrong after all, for Mr Titman had a stroke of apoplexy about a year ago, and yesterday another stroke caused his death at the age of 39. Eight men were required to lift him into the coffin.
