WANAKA NOTES
(From a Correspondent) -Mr 11. M Mackey, of Wan aka Motors, Ltd, writes :—The Pembroke--Makaroa-Haast Pass film, which was recently taken, is now prepared for exhibition, and has turned out highly successful. It might appear in the opening performance at the now Empire Theatre in Dunedin. After which it will appear at Pembroke and elsewhere.
Advice has also been received that the Publicity Department have decided to film the Wanakn-Frany, Josef track this approaching summer. This promises to lie ail important step in the right direction. Quite a number of tourists have recently made a tour of this track of late.
Mr and Mrs Hunt. (Pembroke) witUi'riends are making the trip to Franz Josef at present and are calling at Ukimi on the return trip. Mr Aljin Brown (Waiho Gorge) has just tramped over but was unfortunate in not obtaining suitable weather conditions suitable for landscape sketching, .Mr Watson (Pembroke) also has completed an exploration tour into the interesting mountain and forest regions I well off the beaten track. j
He was accompanied with Mr Eric James, the White Star guide. The majestic Mt. Hooker (3,(144ft.) was visited and photographed under excellent conditions. , This splendid skypiercer is to lie visited by its first alpine party in December. -Mr 'Watson also visited Okuru and roamed up the magnificent, winding, forest-bound Hapuka ’Creek, noted for waterfowl and trout and for its splendid rcflections.
Mr R. Dunning is on a combined business and pleasure trip to the North Island.
