The remark was prompted when his Honor asked Mavis Edna Hogg what was the reason Oscar Jammett Hogg left home after only six months of married life. The young wife said, “Wc just had an argument.” Petitioner said the marriage took place in November, 1924. In the following April respondent packed up his belongings and departed. “How do you reckon the figures will work out?’’ genially inquired the Prime Minister, when Mr Parry, from the Labour benches of the House to-night talked about election prospects.

ATTEMPTED BAG-SNATCHING DUNEDIN, Aug. 22

A particularly determined attempt at bag-snatching occurred at about 8.39 p.iii. on Tuesday. While a woman was ascending the steps from Philip street, opposite the Kensington Hotel, to tlio Main Font'll road, a man suddenly seized her handbag and attempted to wrest it from her. She maintained a firm grip of her property. however, and when the wouldbe thief tugged n second time she was jerked off her balance. and dragged several feet down the steps, receiving injuries to her face. She piprkily refused to let go, and when she screamed her assailant fled. Several people at once on me to her assistance. The man lias so far not been apprehended. POST OFFICE FIRE. AUCKLAND, Aug. 23. The combined store and fxist office at Pannmre was destroyed by (ire early this morning. The occupier G. Farr, awakened to And the building well alight and lie, and his family made a hurried escape being unable to save anything, there being no water supply in the village. Nothing could he done to light tlie flames, and only the chimneys were left standing. LAUNCH CAPSIZES. TWO -WEN MISSING. WELLINGTON, Aug. 23. The Secretary of live General Post i Office has received* the following message from the Postmaster at Plimmerton: “The largo launch Mntaldtaki, owned by Brown Bros., of Pnrematn, capsized off the. reefs about two miles from Plimmcrton at 2.30 p.m. Tt is unofficially advised that Harry Brown and Alick Brown were in the launch at the time. The launch was seen floating for a few minutes, and then it disappeared. It was impossible to send searchers from either Plimnierton or Pnremain. A heavy sea is running, and there is a high wind. A pa fly of men left Pareniata for the reefs, near the scene of the mishap. Brown Bros carried lifebelts in the launch.”
