A L LEG ED MUR DER. SYDNEY, August 24. A Chinaman, Chang (low, a tailor, of Marrickville, died on 19th July. Nine days later his widow, a white woman, married Ernest Trapman, a member of the crew of the warship Platypus. As the result of rumours which gained currency the police had the body exhumed and on the analyst’s report, Trapman and the woman were arrested to-night on a charge of murder. The police allege Trapman was formerly employed by Gow, hut left after a dispute. SYDNEY’S COAL. SYDNEY, Aug. 23. At" tho coal inquiry, ex-Lord Mayor Mosetyn denied that he ever entered into any agreement with any tenderer for a City Council coal contract. He had never authorised his wife’s name to bo inserted in any agreement. Just before the City Council was dissolved by the Government, a recommendation was received that 20,000 tons of coal he purchased from Byrnes Ltd., but ho had demurred and he had referred the matter to the Premier. Mr Bavin, who advised that the Council should carry on with the coal in hand, leaving the contract to he arranged by the Coinmissoners. The Premier, Mr Bavin, also gave evidence. Ho corroborated ex-Lord Mayor Mostyn’s statement. GOVERNOR SAILS. SYDNEY. Aug. 2-1. Governor Do Chair sailed by the Niagara yesterday evening for Vnucoiiver.
