Thousands of women and girls fought .desperately to get inside the Cathedral hours before the ceremony, which was fixed at 11.30 o'clock. The city streets and the tall buildings around were thronged with excited women, who waved and cheered the prima donna as she motored through in a large sedan lavishly bedecked with spring flowers, hyacinths.
