ANTI-WAR PACT
Australian Press Assn.—United Service JAPANESE OPINION. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) ‘TOKYO, August 23. leading vernacular newspapers support Japan’s approval of the naval proposals, hailing the Anglo-French movement as wise statesmanship leading to the adjustment of differences of international viewpoints, preparatory to a conference of powers wherein an honest endeavour could be made to relieve the burden of armaments and retrieve the failure of the last Geneva Conference. Surprise is expressed at America’s reported distrust, which is unintelligible in view of the anti-war proposals.
