It should, however, l>e possible to .make a furthet analysis of the detailed returns to determine approximately tlie proportion of motor transport directly competing with the railways and otherwise representing an extension of transport facilities. The study is certainly worth pursuing, both to reveal the dimensions of uneconomic duplication of transport and to discover whether the factor of motor competition in the unsatisfactory results of railway operations is as serious as it is generally represented. —“New Zealand Hei aid.”
