WESTLAND DAIRY FACTORY

At yesterday’s meeting of Directors of tho Westland Dairy Co., the Manager (Mr Parry) 'disclosed figures showing that a very substantial bonus is to be paid out to suppliers shortly. Directors expressed pleasure with the past season’s results and judging by tho private offers received for tho incoming year’s output, the Company seems assured of even better, returns. “Nothing succeeds like success” and with tho enrolling of several new suppliers tho management found it necessary to purchase another 2-ton White lorry, which is now in commission. The question of commencing the bacon factory, initiated by Mr Boddington, of Koiterangi, received very strong support. It was estimated that producers, through such an institution,, would receive Id per lb more for pork, than outside market returns. With tho Company’s collecting transport, this should prove to he of exceptional service additionally to its suppliers. Referring to a leading article in the “Guardian” on "Co-operative Spirit,” the trend of the farmers, said Mr Parry, was steadily increasing towards centralisation, the partial completion of which would bcuelit the suppliers by 2d per lb more for their buttorfat, by reason of lessened cost of production. Such results.are world wide, and are being rapidly and successfully adopted by the farming community throughout the Dominion.

Tho merging of any one factory with the local scheme, Mr Parry explained, would very soon cause all other Com paiiies to join in, purposely to shine the increased returns, for no farmer would, or could afford to deliberately turn aside further profit. It appeared to him to be a matter of a little time, but he expressed the utmost confidence in final results.

Reviewing the foregoing, including the proposed establishment of the bacon factory, must reflect credit on tho Company and forecasts a new era of activities tnd prosperity for the farming community of Westland.
