SIR JOSEPH WARD AS LEADER? OTTAWA, August 19.
A message from Winnipeg states: Sir Joseph, Ward, M.P., of New Zealand, intimated here, in an interview, on Sunday, that lie had been asked by a cable sent at tlie instance of fifty candidates of the United Political Party in New ’ Zealand to liecome the lender of the party. Sir Joseph Ward ’ declined to say whether he would accept the leadership or not. He would not discuss the political situation iii New Zealand.
