THE NEXT MARVEL.
“Within 30 years one of the problems which most fascinated the minds of philosophers and astronomers or antiquity, as well as of our day—namely the problem of interplanetary communications—will be well on the road to solution. The moon will be the first world to which extra-terres-trial journeys will be attempted. Studies and experiments to this end have already begun,” writes Profesor Pio Emanuelli ..secretary to the Vatican Observatory Rome. “Within 30 years this seductive problem will no longer by a theoretical speculation by learned professors, but an object of practical experiments and attempt on the part of daring technicians and mechanics The first step will he to send to the moon rockets with a multiple charge, whoso fall on the surface of the moon will he watched by our astromoners through powerful telescopes. Then new and more perfect rockets will he sent until the system is sufficiently safe for men to risk taking the journey. For this purpose it is necessary to have enormous sources of energy, which we do not now possess.”
