SNODGRASS’ INJURY. CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 20. F. Snodgrass, injured in Saturday’s Rugby game should be right again in a few davs. He ricked an ankle.
ROUGH PLAY IN LEAGUE TEST. DUNEDIN, Aug. 20. In view of Saturday’s rough play in the League test, it was inevitable that some comment be voiced at the smoko concert given in the evening to the visitors. Alost of the straight talking was done by the English managers (Hutchins and Osborne) both of whom laid on the cane. Air Hutchins who was especially straightforward, deplored the fact that such a game should have been staged in a centre where there was such strong opposition to the code, and ho wondered if Saturday’s game had been worth while. After exhorting the players always to consider seriously the question ‘•is the game worth while,” he made it clear that unless the game was played in its real spirit be .would step out and be glad to do so. He believed, however, that the second test was only a fly ill the ointment.” The utmost friendliness prevailed at the function. It was a pity the same spirit could not have been taken to the field of play. SOCCER. WESTPORT, August 18. The Peter Dawson Soccer Cup changed hands, when the West Coast Soccer representatives defeated' Buller by two goals to nil. The ground‘was greasy, after a heavy morning’s rain.
