xmy agreement , "WELLINGTON, Aug. 14 ; The new agreement between the New Zealand Shipowners’ Federation and the Federated'Seamen’s Union of New Zealand differs little from the former agreement, the alterations chiefly concerning hours of overtime and extra payments. The principal differences as between the 'new agreement and the old are as follows: —• " inc rease’ in' rate for bed, when a seaman is required to sleep on shore, from 2s del to ll's! With certain exceptions the minimum overtime payment to he half an hour instead of a quarter of an hour. Hours at sea for daymen in t(ie engine department commence at 8 a.m. instead of <5 a.ill. gashing docks on Sundays and holidays at sea on passenger vessels trading beyond New Zealand to he lietwcen C a.m. and 8 a.m. instead of between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Time for mooring and unmooring is now to ibe included in seamen’s hours of labour.
Leave of absence to he given on Anniversary Day without deduction of pay, but only as far as is reasonably passible in the ease of ships timed to sail on that day.
Sail Diego is added to the list of main ports in the clause relating to Sunday and holiday saiiingsi “Lotol” or other disinfecting material to be kept available for use J>y the crew when reasonably necessary. A bath towel to he provided for each seaman each week, but this provision dees not conic into operation until January Ist 1928.
ltoiler work rate of extra payment is increased from 9d to Is, and certain work in motor ships is now included.
Trimming coal in the stokehold rate for deck hands has been made the same as for firemen, viz.. Is per hour. 'I lie definition of “arrival” embodied in the awards of 1922 and 1924 has been restored, under which a vessel will not be deemed to have arrived until she finally is moored at the loading or discharging berth.
