AIRMEN FETED. - Australian Press Assn.—United Service (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) PERTH, August 15. At a civic reception to the Southern Cross fliers the Town Hall was crowded. The aviators acknowledged the enthusiastic welcome, at which Mayor Franklyn spoke in flattering terms of the latest wonderful achievement. Ivingsford Smith and Ulm praised their colleagues Litchfield and McWilliams and placed them on the same' high pedestal as Lyon and Warner and not one whit less courageous. Litchfield, replying, admitted lie had the wind up. When they hit the west coast of Western Australia he thought for the moment that Perth had shifted. McWilliams said he felt honoured in being associated with such eminent aviators. His part in the flight to New Zealand would le small compared with that of Smith and Ulm, hut he would do his best. He was eagerly looking forward to the New Zealand flight and assured his comrades df a cordial welcome there. Smith and Ulm have borrowed a -A small ’plane for the purpose of visiting country friends on Thursday and Friday. Arrangements have been made to move the Southern Cross from her present water-logged location to a more-' suitable spot in the country, where there will he a much better chance of taking off with the heavy' load at the commencement of the return journey.
