Although he is still confined to heel, the improvement in condition of the Foreign Secretary, Sir Austen Chamberlain, is being maintained. The Prime .Minister has asked Lord Hailsham, the Lord Chancellor, to act for him while ho is absent on holiday at Aix-les-Bains. It is understood that if it had not been for his illness Sir Austen Chamberlain would have been appointed as Acting-Prime Minister as he was during Mr Baldwin’s recent absence in Canada.
