THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

PItEKKUENTIAI, VOTING. The division list on Mr McCombs's Preferential Voting Bill was a good deal more interesting than the Bill itself. Mr McCombs made no secret of tlie fact that it was introduced for a special purpose, and could, if passed, sen'e no other purpose as matters now stand. But in spite of this admission, or because of it, lie was supported by several members, who in ordinary circumstances would have had nothing at all to do with the principles of the Bill, or with any proposal which substituted preferential voting. —Christchurch “Press.”
