N.Z. COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, August 7. The monthly meeting of the N.Z. Golf Council was held yesterday. A proof copy of the programme of the New Zealand championship meeting at Dunedin from October 12th to 20th, was received from the Otago Golf Club, and approved. Programmes will he circulated to all affiliated clubs within the next few weeks, entries closing with the Secretary of the Otago Club on September 28th. It. was decided that this year’s entrants will again require to obtain national handicaps from the Association, for which all applications have to he made through the Club Secretaries before September 7th, on which date all applications will ho dealt with by the Council. All tnose who secure national handicap certificates of 18 or under (equal to approximately a club handicap of 8) may enter for the championship events, and it is thought more likely that all those with national handicaps of 11 and under will ho accepted. The President of the Otago Golf Club, Mr C. W. Rattray, kindly offered to give the trophy for the winner of the amateur championship, and Mr Rattray’s offer was accepted with thanks.

Programmes have been received from the Royal Sydney Golf Club for the Australian amateur and open championships next month, and it was reported that three New Zealand players, including Mr A. D. S. Duncan, have entered for these events, which commence on September 6th. In connection with standardisations of courses, it was arranged that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs A. D. S. Duncan and W. A. Kiely, will meet next week, and go through the whole of the forms, together with MiRedhead’s suggestion, and definitely decide what standard scratch score is to he adopted by each club. A cablegram was received from a New Zealand golfer at present in England, asking whether the Council would give a substantial guarantee to Harry Vardon, the well known English professional, for a .month’s engagement in New Zealand from December 21st, giving exhibition matches. It was resolved after discussion to reply to the effect that the time is very unsuitable for a tour of New Zealand.

October 22nd; Hamilton (South Auckland championship), October Ith, sth and oth ; New Zealand championship (Dunedin), October 12th to 20th ; Manawatu, October 22nd, 23rd and 2-l.th; Seafield (Wanganui), October 20th, 22nd and 23rd; Wanganui Golf Club, October 4th, sth and oth. The Wakatipu Golf Club, Queenstown, which had duly made application, was elected a member of the Association. making the total number of dubs now affiliated to the Association 149.

MISS KAY IVINS AGAIN. SYDNEY. Aug. 8. The New South Wales women were eliminated from the semi-final of the golf championship as the result of today’s play. Three Victorians and the New Zealand star, Miss Kay, carried off the second round match, which were played in dull weather with a light breeze. Mrs Gatehouse (Victoria) heat Miss Hay (Victoria) one up. Miss MacLeod (Victoria) heat Airs Morgan (N.S.AV.) eight up and six to play.

Miss Susie Tolhurst (Victoria) beat Trs Triglone (N.S.AV.) three and

Aliss Kay (New Zealand) beat Mrs thick (N.S.AV.) six and five. The Gatehouse-Hay contest was lose all the way, Aliss Flay just n'liss-

ing a half at the last hole. Mrs Morgan never had a chance against the splendid driving of her opponent (Miss MacLeod). M iss Tolhurst equally overshadowed Mrs Triglone.

The best golf of the day was Miss Kay’s, whose initials “0.K.” were singularly appropriate to the shots she played. Her opponent played very well, hut was quite unequal to the visitor’s game. The latter went out

(nine holes) in 37, made up as follows:—3, 4, 4, 5, 4, 3,5, 4 and 5; and she made the home journey in forty, viz:—4. -I, 4, a, ,5, b. 6, 3 and 4, The draw for the semi-finals tomorrow is: Miss McLeod meets Miss Kay; a ltd Mrs Gatehouse meets Miss Tolhurst.

An eighteen stroke handicap was won hv Miss M. Hill (01, handicap six t den, equals seventy-five). Mrs Shailer Weston (New Zealand) 81 4—77 was second.
