WESTLAND SUB-UNION. MONDAY, AUG. 6th, The Sub-Union met at 8 p.m. Present : Messrs F. McGregor (chair), Dowell, Moore, Cutbush, Cooper, McDonald, Broze, Stafford, J. Coulson and Heenan. An apology was mado for- the absence of Hie President and Mr McManaway. Referees reports as read were received and considered satisfactory. No ground being available for the cadet game on Aug. 11th. the matter was held over until a definite date was fixed. The third-grade fixture Arahura v. School was set down for Aug. 11th. at Arahura at 2.30 p.m. Mr Christianson to ho referee. It was resolved the secretary arrange details for the match School v. Ashburton on Monday Aug. 13th. Air AlcAlaiiaway to ho referee. The junior fixture Ross V. Kiwi at Hokitika was fixed for Aug. 11th. at 3 p.m. Air R. Nightingale to ho referee. The name of Air MeManaway was agreed to be submitted to the W.C.R.U. for selection as referee for the representative fixture. It was resolved that the referees for the Convent and State matches he Aug. Bth. Rev. Father McKay and Aug. 15th. Mr D. Williamson. It as resolved that the President and members of the Union journey to Ross on Aug. 15th. for the Victory Ball and present the trophies won by Ross Club this year. It was resolved to obtain use of Kiwi Club jerseys for the junior representatives. BULLER v. SOUTHLAND. The Following team has been chosen to represent Duller against Southland on 16th. inst:—C>. PALArERSTOX N„ Aug. 5. 11l the North and South Islands minor unions Rugby game North Island proved victorious by the big margin of 39 points to 6. The weather was dull with a strong wind blowing down the field, which 'considerably affected play. Four thousand peoplo wore present. The game was patchy and one-sided. North Island holding the upper hand throughout, North, playing with the wind and sun in the first half, registered 25 points, never being seriously challenged. In the second half South improved and secured two tries, North adding 14 more points. South were very weak in hacks. Snodgrass (Nelson) and Day (Ashburton) being the only two who showed up. Kent (North Otago) was very weak, and, as a result, the South inside hack lino was almost useless. The South forwards saw little of the ball, North gaining possession from both scrums and line-outs in the first half. The second spell saw the South pack playing better irr the loose and forcing play at times. AV'. Cameron (North Otago) and Freitas (AVest Coast) were two good forwards. The South team had no defections, but APCloary (AVest Coast) had to go off at half-time, being replaced by Last (Golden Bay). The North team was considerably altered from that selected, Nepia and Afill (East Coast), and Price and Robinson (Thames A'alley) being absentees. Tn tho first halt Langlands and V. Thomas secured two tries apiece and Braniwell and Kemp AVaiknto and Skelton (King Country) one each. Langlands and Kemp each converted a- try to make the half-time score 25 to nil in favour of the North. In the second spell TJislop (King Country), Anderson (V'aikalo), Kemp and Langlands scored for the North. Langlands converted his own try. AV. Cameron (North Otago) and Day (Ashburton) scored for tlic South, (Snodgrass failing to .convert either try.
