The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present:—Mr A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), Mrs Wilson, Messrs Sweney, Pedder, Shannon, Richards, Coulson and Conning (lion, sec.) An apology was made for the absence of Mrs
Perry. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Rangiora. High School Board asking for copy of school prospectus— Received, referred to Rector. From Ross School Committee asking particulars in connection with dental clinic.—Received, secretary to reply. From Canterbury Education Board
in reference to insurances on cost of dental clinics.—Received. Left to Chairman and Secretary for attention. From E. B. Reid, resigning position as temporary assistant teacher in secondary school.—Received. From Canterbury Board notifying instruction to foreman to carry out repairs asked for.—Received. From Department of Health, reporting on deficiencies in stock of clinic.— Received. Enquiries to be made by chairman and secretary. Accounts as scheduled were pasceil for payment. The Visiting Committee (Mrs Wilson :rud Mr Swenev) reported on necesi?ni!y improvements required to the teachers’ room, also some minor repairs.—Received, left to Mrs Wilson too attend to.
The Chaiman reported that the Acclimatisation Society had donated £3 towards the cost of taking some of the elder scholars to the hatchery and that Mr Newman had agreed to take 30 to the lake for this amount. It was iceolvod to procure half a gross of “The Feathered World” writing pads. Mr R. Paterson had offered a prize of 10s (id for an essay on the visit to the hatchery.
Votes of thanks were passed to the Acclimatisation Society, Mr Newman and Mr Paterson.
The Rector (Mr E. Partridge) reported a. mild epidemic of colds and influenza affected the attendance somewhat. The average attendance was, primary 271, secondary 94. The annual medical inspection was held by Dr Baker Mc-Lachlan, assisted by Nurse Anderson, but regret was felt at the poor response of parents to the invitation to he present. The term, examinations were now in progress. The term holidays would commence oil The 17th. the school re-opening on 4tli. Sept. During the month proficiency examinations had taken place, two being presented, and both were successful. The arrangements had been made for the visit of Ashburton scholars, and a tentative programme having been drawn up. A number of small requirements were mentioned, some 200 loads of sand had been spread on the grounds which were now in hotter condition than ever before.—Received. The Dental Officer notified children treated during the period as follows: Hokitika 56, Upper Kokntahi 10, Lower Tvokatahi 11, Upper Koiterangi 10, Lower Koiterangi 14.—Received. The Committee rose at 8..5 p.m.
