Smith, Ulm and party conducted a successful test with the Southern Cross thus afternoon, with five hundred gallons of petrol aboard. Tlie time of their departure for Perth is uncertain. NORTH AUSTRALIAN FLIGHT. SYDNEY, Aug. 6. Sir John Salmond will fly round Northern Australia in pursuance of liis inspection of the Commonwealth air defence facilities. Leaving Point Cook on August 16th. he proceeds to Queensland and the Northern Territory and thence across "West Australia to Adelaide.
