To-morrow night at Kumara the Memorial Hall ball takes place. This function, which is an annual one, is getting increasingly popular, and has never failed to draw a largo attendance. The decorations, which are now well in hand, it is said will eclipse all previous attempts at decorating. Boss’s Orchestra will supply the music, and an energetic ladies’ committee will provide a supper fit for a king.

A Wellington correspondent wired yesterday—lt is now fairly certain that the Financial Statement will be presented to the House of Representatives on Tuesday next. If that is the case, it is expected that the debate on the Statement will commence on the following Friday. The main interest m this year’s Budget will centre round the intentions of the Minister for Finance in regard to the income-tax, but so far no hint lias been dropped on this point.

The Spinsters Ball in the Soldiers’ Hall last evening was one of the distinct successes of the season. The ball was very attractively decorated, the theme adopted proving a very successful one. Splendid music was supplied by Boss’s Orchestra, while the Black Hand Orchestra filled in the extras in good style. The hostesses excelled in the supper room, and attended to the lequirements of their guests in a very satisfying manner.

A private message to-day from Nelson brought the sad news •>( the death of Harry, the eldest son of Air and Mrs K. If. Robinson, formerly of Hokitika. The death occurred this morning as the result ot an accident. The deceased was a native of Hokitika, his parents having resided in .Sale Street for several years before proceeding to Nelson. Mr AN. H. Bobinson. of Christchurch, is an unde of the deceased.

While attending to cattle in the Boefton pound, Mr AY. Boden, ol the County Council staff, had a narrow escape from serious injury. lie Nias feeding a couple of animals when one of them charged him and knocked him down, making a second attempt to gore him while he was lying on the ground. Boden was able to get an ay front the animal, and he went lor medical assistance. The wound sustained liv him was severe, some stitches having to he inserted.
