FOOTBALL.

WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The usual weekly meeting was held at Greymouth last evening. E. T. Furlong and Claude Barrow were re-admitted to the code subject to the confirmation of the. New Zealand Union. A school grant of £25 was received from the N.Z. Union. A letter was received from B. A Griffiths advising that lie intended to play League. A letter was received from tic Railway Department, asking the IToion’s co-operation in arranging for i special train on August 13. in view of the North v, South Island match in Christchurch.

It was resolved to advise tbe Department that the Union woujd give every assistance, but could not see its way to advertise tlie project.

Tbe N.Z. Union wrote advising the date of tbe assembly of tbe rep re ■; mtaives of the South Island team, an,l also calling for nominations for the North v. South match, closing on August Otli.—Referred to selectors. Mr Adams, manager of the Seddon Shield team, commenting on the match, said that the Nelson public mid given tbe team a splendid reception. The Ball Committee was given permission to advertise the Rugby- Union ball in honour of the All Blacks, on Tuesday, September 11.

United fourths were given permission to play Arahura at Hokitika next Saturday. S. McKay was appointed manager of the team. It was resolved to approach the Principal of the Technical School with a view to arranging the Newman Shield match, Westport v. Greymouth Technical Schools, as a curtain-raiser to the Southland-Coast match on August 11. It was resolved that club matches l>e continued next Saturday, that the return‘senior match, Grey v. Hokitika, be played at Hokitika on August 18, and that tho Westland Sub-Union be asked to play the return junior representative match on that day.

The following fixtures were approved for next Saturday:— SENIORS.

(First Round, Citizens’ Shield.) Stars v. United at A ground, Park, 3 p.in., Mr Mclntosh, referee. Kiwis v. Excelsiors, at Hokitika, at 3 p.m.
