fj ; LADIES GOLF CUP. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 11.5 a.m.) ' ' SYDNEY, Aug. 1. The ladies golf cup competition at Rose' Bay Links opened in glorious weather. Two Victorian players Miss Mona MacLeod (Australian champion) and' Mrs Alex Russell gave fine exhibitions, this pair leading at the end of the first round of the competition which was thirty-six hole stroke play, on scratch.' Miss Olive Kay (New Zealand champion) who created great interest hardly did herself justice the first day, but some of her >4 short approaches were very fine. Miss. • MacLeod and Mrs Russell at the end ■ of the first round were each eighty- ' \ four and Miss Kay was ninety-three. 'Mrs Raissell triumphed at the end of the second day, winning the Oup, with 84—80—16-1- Miss MacLeod was second with 84—82—166, and Mrs C Morgan, New South Wiles, was third f with 87—84—171. Miss Kay’s score was 93—87—176. The latter played a. vastly improved game owing to a greater familiarity with the links, her long hntting causing admiration, and her approaching was much more accurate than on the first day. She, however, found the light different from New Zealand. Miss Pnvton (Rotorua) scored 93 91 184, and Miss Snodgrass (New V- Zealand) 102 —96—198. • In h the stroke handicap of eighteen holes won by Miss Water, the New Zealanders Mrs Shaller Weston scored qy ,f 4-93 and Miss Payton 93—1—92.
