The new award for the sawmill workers of the Coast has now been made and conies into general operation this month. It lias a currency for approximately two years.
The Westland Power Ltd., of Hokitika, by a recent decision of the Arbitration Court, has been brought under the award covered by the industrial agreement for Electric Power Boards obtaining on the Coast.
The monthly meeting of the Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Society will take place at 7.30 o’clock this evening. The rules in connection with membership are to be revised, and matters relating'-to ranging will be dealt with.

Infectious and other notifiable diseases reported in the Canterbury and West Coast health districts for the week ended noon on Monday totalled 69. as follows :—Canterbury : Scarlet fever, 52; diphtheria., 2; tuberculosis, 6; pneumonia, 4; erysipelas 2. West Coast: Scarlet fever, 1; diphtheria, 1; tuberculosis, 1. There were two deaths from scarlet fever and one death from tuberculosis in the Canterbury district.

The auxiliary scow Zingara is due here on Friday when she will load timber for the Hutt, taking away about 125,000 feet. The boat is expected to have a quick despatch and be able to get away on Saturday. It is understood that regular trips will be made, the next loading being for Wellington and that two to three trips will be made monthly. A considerable quantity of timber is under order for despatch for Wellington.

The death took place at Reelton Hospital on Sunday ol the oldest resident of the district, in the person of .Mr Harry AlcCloskey in his 93rd year. The deceased Inul been in indifferent health for some time past. He was a native of Londonderry, Ireland, and had been many years in the Dominion. He arrived on the West Coast in 1865. and followed the various gold rushes at Hokitika. Charleston, lluller and Inangahua, and was greatly respected.
Nurse F. Meredith, of the stall" ol the Grey Fiver Hospital, who has lelt lor Canterbury, where she joins the staff of the Aliddle Sanatorium, as Sister, was prior to her departure farewelled at the Hospital. On the patients’ behalf, she was presented with a gold expanding wristlet watch, Mr James Thompson making the presentation, and ouolgising the recipient for her care and kindness towards the patients. Miss .Meredith later was the guest of the nursing staff at afternoon tea at the Nurses’ I lonic, where she was the recipient of another presentation from the stall’, comprising a travelling rug and a suitcase. The Matron was present, and voiced the esteem in which tile staff held the departing member. whom they all wished every success in the future. Nurse Aleredith suitably responded.
