Advices from Rabaul state that seven head-hunters, recently convicted of murders during a tribal fight on the Sepik River, were hanged at Ambundi, in the view of their fellowtribesinen. '1 IN NEW SOUTH WALKS. SYDNEY, July 27. Arctic conditions lmve prevailed over tho greater part of the State during the last few days. Intense cold is reproted from all centres. Torrential rain is now falling in all of tho coastal areas and floods are feared in many districts. -SAMOAN MURDERS. CHINESE ACQUITTED. APIA, July 26. Choo Fook, after five days’ trial on a charge of tho murder of girls at Latopa in October, was acquitted. In a statement to the police, lie had confessed his guilt, hut at. the trial ho alleged that the confession had been extorted by insufficient food and by an assault by the police. He also called evidence of an alibi. Under cross-examination ho gave the date of the assault as subsequent to the date, of the confession made.
