EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “TOO MANY CROOKS” —TO-NIGHT. Laugh wares mingled with crime waves are the ruling forces of “ Too Many Crooks,” the Paramount picture which is to be shown at the Princess Theatre to-night. The photoplay, which marks Mildred Davis’ return to the screen after an absence of almost four years, is a farce comedy of a wealthy debutante who believes she is capable of writing a good crook drama. To obtain realism, she invites four members of New York’s best underworld society to her home for a week-end party, that she may study them first hand, —which is what starts the laughs, mix-ups and thrills. .Through the entire production, despite its farcical nature, there runs a fine thread of romance between Miss Davis and Lloyd Hughes, who is co-featured with her. Fred Newmeyer, the director, made “A Sailor Made Man,” “Dr Jack,” “Grandma’s Boy,” and “Safety Last.” Other members of the featured cast are George Bancroft and El Brendel. William V. Mong, Betty Francisco, Otto Matiesen, John St. Polis and Tom Ricketts head the supporting company. The story concerns a wealthy Long Island society miss, who believes herself capable of writing a crook play superior to any showing oil Broadway. To prove her ability, she engages a quartet of noted crooks to visit her home in order that she may study their habits. A topical, scenic and comedy complete the display to-night.
