THE RAILWAYS. MANAGERS AND UNIONS CONFERS. ‘ (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY Juy 24. The joint conference between managers of the railway companies and representatives of throe railways’ trade unions opened to-day, at which proposals designed to improve the financial position of the companies are being discussed. The proposals of the companies, involving a revision of conditions of employment with a view to reducing working costs, were submitted yesterday to rnihvaymen, and it is anticipated that to-day’s meeting will refer matters in dispute to tho Central Wages Board, on which tho companies and unions are represented. If no settlement is reached, it will he passed on to the National AVages Board, which has a neutral chairman and on which, also the users of the railways are represented.
