CROSSING ACCIDENT.
PALMERSTON N., July 26.
A motor cyclist named Sayer, a young man, collided with the Napier express this afternoon, at Princess St. crossing. He sustained severe injuries to his right leg. He was hospitalled.
CHINESE MURDER. CASE. RIFLE FOUND. DUNEDIN, July 26. A repeating rifle, allegedly used in the murder of Jo Slien at Ryburn, has been found by the police, one hundred yards down the track leading to tlie dead Chinaman’s hut. It was broken into two parts, which wore some distance apart. Hanlon has been epgaged as accused’s counsel.

Robert William Allen, aged 18, who was sentenced to two years borstal on charges of receiving stolen goods applied to Magistrate Mosley this morning for a rehearing, alleging lie had been urged to plead guiTty previously by a detective when really innocent. Deflective-Sergeant YptJng said lie strongly resented the allegation. It had been well treated by the detcctivo staff. After bearing evidence tlie Bench dismissed the application saying tho boy had received fair treatment arid had received no injury whatever. FLOOD CONDITIONS. MERCER, July 26. Although no rain has fallen since Tuesday night tho river is still rising though, at a diminiehing rate. Measurements taken at the junction of of the Whangainarino and the AVaikato rivers to-day show that the level bad risen four inches in twelve hours. If the present fine weather continues throughout the AVaiknto river will fall Evidence of the buried' exit of some campers was seen yesterday floating down tho AVr.'iknJto River yesterday in the form of pots, pans, cups and other camp gear. The farmers report losses of young lambs and calves, otherwise there is no heavy loss being reported.
