INSANE ATTACK ON WOMAN. -j' T J NEW PYMOUTH, July 25. \ A savage attack on Mrs H. Quilliani, on July 6th,. was admitted today by Wm. Patrick Leary, who was committed for sentence. Leary, who was on probation, was employed ns a domestic servant by Mr Quilliam. attacked Mrs Quilliam, apparently with a scrubbing brush, inflicting a severe wound over the eye, and a number of bruises. When Mr Quilliam responded to a summons, lie found furniture in disorder and blood splashed about the room, and in the passage. The meter reader had called at an opportune moment, opened the door, and > ■' found Mrs Quilliam dazed and covered • - with blood. He heard someone leaving r. the house. Leary gave himself up to the police, and, told them that while he was talking with Mrs Quilliam, his mind went completely blank, and that he struck her several times on the head and then decamped.
