ATHLETICS.
ATHLETES QUARTERS. ' Australian Press Assn.—United Service LONDON, July 24. The Australian press correspondent at Amsterdam states as travelling is severely affecting the training, Dull is
immediately transferring the athletes Carlton, 'Stuart, Whyte and Watson to quarters at Amsterdam. AMSTERDAM, July 24.
Australian athletes are going to
Lloyd Hotel, where the British and New Zealand Olympic teams are arriving on Friday. The reminder of the Australians with the exception of Pearce, will also- lie taken to Lloyds the day before their respective events. buff explains ho has given Velserbeek Hotel a fair trial but it is too loud and rough. Journeys daily are extremely bad for competitors. He is greatly handicapped by the extent to which the team was committed before his arrival
in England, and is naturally finding a difficulty in cancelling unsatisfactory contracts with regard to quarters and transport, especially as he was not consulted in making them. Indeed, this unfortunate error of judgment in the selection of quarters has robbed the Australians of all the advantages of an early arrival, in view of the fact that Canadians and Mexicans are within a stone’s throw of the Stadium and others within easy distance. The claim that suitable quarters could not be found in Amsterdam seemed indefensible. It was not overmuch to say that the whole' team was thoroughly fed-up with the unsatisfactory arrangc-mbnts. Though four fit athletes would henceforward lie better off than a lot of other competitors, they would not be greatly improved as a result of the VcHorbeek experiment, which resulted in wasted time, Into and irregular meals. This ws hard m highly stiurni athletes and ought to have been endec days ago.
