Mr Meldrum, S.M. is holding a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court to-morrow to hear the case of Jeffries v. Steele for alleged illegal impounding of sheep at Koiternngi some time ago. The Westport “News” understands that Mr W. J. Jeffries, of Hokitika, will contest the Buffer seat in Parliament at the coming elections, as an anti-Socialist candidate. Mr Jeffries is a native of Charleston, hut it is not known whether he intends to inaugnrate a new party of bis own. Seen )V a “Guardian” reporter to-day Mr Jeffries had nothing to say about it.
