OBITUARY
SIGNOR GIOLITTI. EX-PREMIER OF ITALY. (British Official Wireless). RUGBY, July 17. The death is announced of Signor Giovanni Giolitti, the ex-Premier, at the ago of egility-six.
Signor Giolitti was five times Premier of Italy. He was elected to the Chamber in ISB3 and formed his first- Minis-, try in 1893. The war between taly and Turkey occurred during his fourth term of office, which ended in March, 1914. Signor Giolitti was a supporter of the Triple Alliance and an advocate of Italian neutrality in the Great War, and he left Rome when Italy entered it. He reappeared in the Chamber in 1918, after the Caporetto disaster, to defend the Italian soldiers against the charge that the defeat was due to their flight. He became Premier again in 1920, though lie was handicapped because he demanded the indictment of those responsible for bringing Italy into the war. He was succeeded in 1921 by Signor Bonomi, who was superseded by Signor Mussolini’s Fascist Government in 1912.
