RADIUM THROWN AWAY. NAPIER, July 17. An unusual case of radium being thrown away, was related at a meeting of the Napier Hospital Board. It was reported that after a nurse had taken radium from a patient’s face she inadvertently threw it into a rubbish basket, after which it was conveyed to the destructor, before the mistake was discovered. It is hoped | that the precious substance will be 5 recovered from the ashes by a new process. The radium concerned is approximately valued at £2OO.

DAIRY PRODUCE BOARD. ' DAIIGAVILLE, July 17. IV. Grounds (North Auckland representative on the Dairy Produce Board) addressed a large gathering of farmers here yesterday and explained matters in connection with the Board’s affairs; also his attitude therewith. After a lengthy address, at conclusion of which a number of questions were asked, the following resolution was unanimously carried:— “That this meeting of dairy farmers of Northern Wairoa, thanks Mr Grounds for his address and express its confidence in Mr Grounds ami ms-. < policy of co-operative marketing. We, regret the injury done to the spirit of co-operation by dissensions among members of the Dairy Control Board, and wo desire the removal of the Gov-/4| eminent and trade representative * from the Board,- so that dairy affairs may bo in the hands of daily producers.” A FIRE. WOODVILLE, July 17. A fire last night destroyed a garage at the Public Works Department switching station. It had a good hold when discovered. The fire extinguishers were not sufficient. An eighteyclinder car and a Dodge truck were burnt, also gear. The damage is estimated at £I6OO.
