ANOTHER CROSSING DISASTER CHRISTCHURCH, July 15.
A collision occurred at the Colombo Street railway crossing on Saturday evening between a motor car and a shunting engine. The fore part of the motor was badly damaged, and the windscreen was smashed, hut the occupants, of whom there were four, escaped injury.
The motorist states that he saw the crossing keeper’s signal, but the brakes slipped, and the car had sufficient pace to carry it to tho lino.
MOTOR, COLLISION. MASTERTON, 'July 15. As the result of a collision between a motor cycle and a motor car at a street intersection in Masterton, on Saturday afternoon, a man named Edward John Anstis, aged 8-1 years, of .Marti nborough, sas admitted to tho hospital. It is believed that his hip is broken.
RAT POISON CAUSES DEATH, INVERCARGILL, July 15
An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Raymond Frederick Webb, aged 2i years, who died in the hospital after eating sweets smeared with rat poison, was hold on Saturday. A verdict was returned that the child had been accidentally killed by gating chocolates, covered with strychnine, which was intended to destroy rats.
ANTHRAX SUSPECTED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 15. Anthrax is believed to have made its appearance among the stock in tho Seywvn County, where a, cow is reported to have died of the disease. So for tho malady has not been definitely diagnosed as anthrax, hut veterinarians are investigating.
