ALSATIAN DOGS
AUSTRALIAN GRAZIERS’ FEARS. SYDNEY, June 27. The fact that the Graziers’ Federal Council, at its Sydney sittings, decided unanimously to appeal to the. Commonwealth Government to prohibit the further entry of Alsatian dogs into Australia, in. the belief that they will become a greater menace than the dingo if something is not done, has revived a spirited controversy in the Dress on the question of the restriction of the breedings of these dogs. There are veterinary surgeons who assert that Alsatians are a danger both to the community and tlieir owners, and that even the collie, while it has many of the characteristics of -the Alsatian, is not so treacherous, and is much more docile. Owners of collies will be interested in one expression of opinion, that that breed and Alsatians are more untrustworthy in temper than all the other breeds of dogs put together. The collie, it is asserted by olio competent authority, only fell from grace as a perfect gentleman or lady in the canine world when it was ruined by the introduction of foreign blood. ’‘lf ii person wants to own a dog,” says one veterinary surgeon, “then I would strongly recommend the Airedale. lii the first place it looks its part as a dog. and nor a toy, and in the second place it is one of the best house guards and most faithful companions.” The Airedale Ims the added virtue that it is not a gourmet even if it is it gourmand, and will eat anything. In fact, it is a. good kitchen rubbish tip. . j . .
