Some months ago- the steamer Breeze arrived at Wanganui during tlio early morning with lime and other merchandise afire in one of the holds. A team of wharf labourers w-as hurriedly summoned; and they worked hard all day removing the cargo. Some of them now have regrets that they over tackled the job, for they have been sick men ever since. On© states that he does not think his lungs will ever bo right again owing to the dust and fumes of the lime. Another contracted a form of poisoning, which is also attributed to working on this job, and lie is at present confined to bed. Others also state that they- still feel effects of that day’s work, and never again will they- work on a similar job.
