TRANSPORT DISASTER
(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) SANTIAGO, July 7. The Chilian Army transport Angnfflos sank on Saturday ill Araueb Bay. Only five of the crew were saved, according to the first reports. 291 LIVES LOST. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SANTIAGO (Chile), July 7. There were 291 lives lost in the Angamos sinking. Eighty of the victims were passengers. 'The captain committed suicide on the bridge. VANCOUVER, July 9. The Santiago cruiser Zenteno-, and destroyer .Williams, found no wreckage of the disaster at the scene south of Lebu, southern coast of the republic. Details arc lacking. The ship Tarapaco on Friday night intercepted weak signals from the transport, stating it was in a difficult position- hut unexplaining. The radioman of the Tarapaca believed the weakness indicated a- storm was raging for two days and dismantled the main set. Captain Carluta Suarez is said to have suicided when he realised ho was unable to save many women and children among the eighty passengers. The crew numbered 215. Four of the saved were nonedscripts.
