(By Telegraph—l’er Press Association. LOST FIFTY POUNDS. CONFIDENCE TRICKSTER’S RUSE, AUCKLAND, July 3. “No trouble at all. I’ll just hop in here and get it changed for you. I’m a very old friend of the firm. 1 know them well.” This was part of a conversation which took place outside a well-known Warehouse in the city yesterday. One of tho Niagara’s passengers came ashore with a £SO note in his possession and wanted it changed. He discussed the. matter with an affable stranger, in Queen Street, and tlie*latter, on the pretext of getting the note changed, t< :!•: him to a warehouse in a nearby street. The man off the Niagara waited long and patiently on the front doorstop. In the meantime the .stranger* was making frantic efforts to. find an exit from the back of the warehouse which butts on to a back lane. He went through llio warehouse and into the basement from which there was no exit, except through a. double door that was barred and bolted. He asked the .storeman to open the door for him, and on being ta'd it couldn't be done asked the wav out, Thinking he was a person with a legitmate reason for being in the warehouse and that he had lost hi, v.ay, the storeman directed him to the hack exit one flight above, and, to use the latter’s expression, “lie turned on his heel and went up the stairs like one thing. And I fold him how to get out while the other peer Fellow was waiting for his £50.”

Becoming perturbed, the owner of tho note went inside the building, asked tor the cashier, and enquired for the man vjio had cashed his £SO note. MINISTER REBUFFS FILM ACTORS.

A number of Auckland film actors engaged in making a moving picture with a naval setting received a rehiil! yesterday when they attempted to stage a marriage ceremony at the Devonport Presbyterian Church. Permission to use the church in the picture had been previously obtained, hut when tho wedding procession arrived at tho gate, together with about 309 curious spectators and a party of bluejackets who were to pull the carriage hearing the bride, Hiss Dale Austin, and the bridegroom, Mr Cecil Scott, entry to the church grounds was barrod by tlve minister, the Rev. Lawsuit Marsh, who forbade the use of the church on tiio ground that the (ilm company had unceu advantage of bis permission by advertising the ceremony for amusement purposes.

Mr Mai-ii stated subsequently that he had been asked to grant permission for the church to bo used for the film ceremony, which, it. was stated, had the approval of the naval authorities. Those making the request had given as their reason fer wishing to use tin? building that it was the most picturesque church in Auckland, and under the circumstances ho saw no reason for disobliging them. He was amazed, however, when a large crowd of sightseers congregated and tie learned for the first time that the event had been advertised in the newspapers as a “mock marriage at Devonport Presbyterian Church.” Such advertising tended to destroy the sanctity of the Church, and lie had no hesitation in forbidding the scene to bo taken.

PEEPING TOM IN' COURT. x INVERCARGILL, July 3. A Peeping Tom was before the Court to-ay, when .Tames Rhaiul, aged twenty, a clerk was charged with being illegally on premises. About midnight a woman, ‘who was retiring, saw a man’s face at the window. She screamed, and the intruder ran a,way. Later lie was peering into another house, when a woman raised the alarm. A male inmate gave chase, and captured and thrashed him. Accused admitted the offences, and counsel asked for leniency, on the ground that liis actions were due to drink. The Magistrate, Mr Crtiickshatik, fined him £lO and £5 on the two charges. The Magistrate refused to suppress his name.

While returning from school this afternoon, Ngatia Farmer, aged five years, whose parents reside in Mil”' Road, was knocked down by a motor lorry, receiving fatal injuries. The child ran out from the side of the road, and evidently became confused. The lorry struck her and she died almost immediately.

BLFjNHEIM’S AERO CLUB. BLENHEIM, July 4. An enthusiastic and erowtled public meeting, to-night decided 'amid applause to constitute tile Marllxirough Aero Club. ", , Prior to the meeting it was announced that the list of foundation members, which is limited to the first hundred members, had closed. A large number of new members were enrolled at the meeting., and tlie total membership now approaches 150, of whom 36. are trained members, including two ladies. At a subsequent meeting o-f the Club, the constitution drafted by the promoting committee was adopted, and it was decided to make immediate ap plication for registration as an incorporated society. The ; meeting, ,mnde public recognition of tlie Blenhcihi Borough Council’s foresight in providing a municipal aerodrome, which has been placed at the disposal of the Club. The Mayor of Blenheim, Mr M. McKenzie, was elected Patron; Mr H. P Dix, President ; and Mr R. P. Furness. Vice-President.
