At a sitting of the Children’s Court this afternoon Win. Fcary (Mr Murdoch) was fined ‘As and costs on each of two charges of failure to send hi« v step-children to school. Mr Meldrum. S.M., presided. The gift afternoon and evening at the Soldiers’ Hall yesterday, in connection with All Saints’ Church congregation. There was a good attendance during" the daytime and at night a verylarge attendance. The vicar, llevi . Nelson Wright, with Mrs Wright a.u other members of the Committee did r all they could for the entertainment of their guests with games and music, while refreshments were also served. J„ the evening when numerous young people were present dancing was indulged in, Mr Lawn and his hand and others assisting with the music winch made everything merry and bright. During the proceedings a huge mimbei of gifts of various kinds were .landed in. while there were., also many contributions in cash. It is the intention ol the Church Committee to proceed.with the erection of a. Parish 'Hal on t o glebe land adjoining the chuich hull ing. The hall will be 50 x 25. with a lean-to at the rear. It wilt include a small stage and other equipment to .• ma ke it socials.
