(To the Editor.) Sir, —Re Toohey’s complaint in Tuesday evening’s “ Guardian ” perhaps if anyone is to blame, I am, and will accept the responsibility. At the last ( •%ieeting. of. the Provincial Executive of J the Farmers’ Union, held in Greymouth / on June 19th, I was asked to arrange for the Otago Farmers’ Excursion at the Hokitika end. Mr O’Neil was asked to help me, to which he agreed, v Wo called a meeting of citizens and formed a committee. As Messrs New--f) frnns were the only firm capable 61 %'jßhandling such a large party, we arwith them to take charge of 'the transport. ’The outcome of this meeting was that an arrangement was made with Messrs Newmans Motors to provide .cars for, .50 passengers to Punaktiiki, ns we expected 350 people on the Otago farmers train. Messrs Newmans arranged with Messrs Kenned} Pros., of Greymouth, to assist them at A this end and he arranged accordingly, •'■'CA expecting 350 farmers to bo-on tour. J X am sorry Messrs Toohey Bros, did not wait for an explanation before entering into any controversy. I am, etc., JOHN MURDOCH.
