WILKINS’ OBJECT. NEW YORK, July 3.

Wilkins, in discussing the Antarctic Flight, said the purpose was to explore the south side of the. Pacific with ’ a view to establishing twelve meteoro- > logical stations, whereby the weather could be forecasted' a month in ad- j vance. He dismissed the idea that he is competing with Byrd, and pointed out that the latter contemplates flying from a base to the Pole, whereas he (Wilkins) plans to do all the actual work during' one twenty-four hour flight, never approaching within 800 miles of the Pole.

AN ITALIAN ATTEMPT. .TO CROSS SOUTH ATLANTIC. ROME. July 3. The Air Ministry announces that Ferrarin will not leave till Tuesday evening. The flight is the most daring yet attempted, aiming to reach South America in a seven thousand miles non-stop flight of 55 to 60 hours, using a six hundred horse-power Savora machine, capable of 150 miles hourly, with n flying range of 65 hours.

JAPANESE AERIAL RATTLE. TOKYO, July 2. An Oska message states that the largest aerial manoeuvres in the history of Japan start on Tuesday, featuring aerial battles and night attacks, all departments co-operating in an effort to reproduce actual fighting conditions, in the event of any great Japanese industrial cities being attacked from the air.

AMUNDSEN RESCUED. (Received this dsv at 11.25 a.m.) LONDON, July 3. A message from Tromsoe reports Amundsen has been rescued near the, south coast of Spitzbergen. by the Albion which is proceeding to Tromsoe.
