EX-SOLDIERS’ DILEMMA. SYDNEY. July 2

The Returned Soldiers’ League is investigating the ease of a returned soldier who states that lie served with the British Army in the War, and then migrated with his wife and six children to Dunedin. The soldier states that his mind has been a. blank for 41 years, and he now finds himself in Sydney without knowing how he came here. He sent a statement to the League, in which he says ho remembers leaving Dunedin to look for employment. His last' recollection of his wife and family is seeing them in 1920 or 1921. He knew lie was in Sydney in 1922, hut seemed to live in a haze, and it was only by degrees that things canto back. When lie came to a full realisation in 1924 ho was scared, and he was convinced nobody would believe his story, and ho was afraid he would bo charged with desertion, and ho sent to gaol. Ho decided to wait at Sydney until he had earned eiough money to send for his wife and family. The League got into communication with the New Zealand Association, and discovered that Lis wife, after waiting fil years, had remarried, but unhappily, ' and was now separated. In a letter, the wife asks the soldier to return. The League is consulting a solicitor, who will advise the husband and wife as to their legal position.

£SOO REWARD. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 3. Government are offering a reward of £SOO for the apprehension of the masked man who killed two women, cabled on Sunday. Tho wliolo population is stirred. Every available detective is engaged but there is no duo at present.
